Stacey L. Meisel is a founding member of the Livingston, New Jersey-based law firm of Becker Meisel LLC and co-chairs its bankruptcy, insolvency and creditors rights practice group. She has been practicing in the area of insolvency since 1994, focusing on bankruptcy, state court receiverships, debtor and creditors rights, in and out-of-court wind-downs, and commercial law. She frequently represents Chapter 11 debtors, Chapter 7 and 11 Trustees, receivers, individual creditors, landlords and other interested parties in bankruptcy and state court proceedings in New Jersey and other states.
In 1997, she became the youngest serving member on the New Jersey Panel of Bankruptcy Trustees appointed by the United States Department of Justice. In 2006, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit appointed Ms. Meisel to an 11-person Merit Selection Committee, which was responsible for vetting all candidates for the bankruptcy judgeship vacancy in New Jersey.
Ms. Meisel earned her juris doctor from Villanova University School of Law and her bachelors degree from Rutgers University. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania as well as the U.S. District of New Jersey and the Southern District of New York. Ms. Meisel often contributes articles to both law and bankruptcy-related trade publications and is an editor of the American Bankruptcy Institutes (ABI) Third Circuit Decisions Update. In 2004 and 2007, Ms. Meisel was honored by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of its prestigious 40 under 40 and in 2006, she was named one of N.J.s Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ.
A strong believer in social responsibility, Ms. Meisel has volunteered for the Essex County Volunteer Lawyers for Justice since 2002 and helped launch the New Jersey Bankruptcy Lawyers Foundation in 2004. In addition, she is on the board of directors of the Childrens Home Society of New Jersey.
