William Rubenstein
Rubenstein is a professor of law at Harvard Law School, where he writes and teaches courses on civil procedure and complex litigation. Professor Rubenstein’s work emphasizes class action law: he has published, litigated, and served as an expert witness in the field. Professor Rubenstein serves as an adviser to the American Law Institute’s effort to rethink class action law, Principles of the Law of Aggregate Litigation. Prior to joining the Harvard faculty, Professor Rubenstein taught at UCLA (1997–2007) and Stanford (1995–1997), litigated complex civil rights cases in state and federal courts throughout the country (1987–1995), and clerked for the Hon. Stanley Sporkin (D.D.C.). He is a member of the bars of California, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Supreme Court, and numerous federal circuit and trial courts.
