Received his B.A. from Huntingdon College and his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law. He is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the American bar Association, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute. Past employment includes: Clerk for Justice Reneau P. Almon, Alabama Supreme Court and partner in the firm of Ferrell, Davenport & McKoon in Phenix City. He is currently a partner in the firm of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston & Garrett, P.A. in Montgomery.
