Mr. Day is a trial lawyer in Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1978 and the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1981, where he was on the staff of the
North Carolina Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif.
He has served on the board of governors for the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association since 1984 and as the organizations president from 1993 to 1994. Mr. Day has served on numerous committees of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, including a term as chair of ATLAs Council of State Presidents. He is a life member of TTLA and a charter member of ATLAs Presidents Club.
The Tennessee Supreme Court appointed Mr. Day to serve on the Tennessee Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution from 1992 to 1995. He is currently serving on the Courts Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization. He also served on the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group from 1991 to 1995 at the request of former Chief Judge Thomas Wiseman.
Mr. Day has been an active author and speaker. In addition to writing the first edition of this text, he is the founder and editor of the Tennessee Tort Law Letter, a monthly newsletter on tort law. He has written more than 30 articles for a dozen different legal publications. He has given more than 150 continuing legal education speeches in 14 states and the District of Columbia.
He has been certified as a Diplomate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1991 and as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Legal Education and Specialization since 1994. He has been president of the National Board of Trial Advocacy since July 2003.
Mr. Day has been included in every edition of Best Lawyers in America since 1993, when he was 36 years old. At age 45, he was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He, his wife, Joy, and their two children live in Brentwood, Tennessee.
