Mr. Schmit is a partner for the Iowa City, Iowa firm Phelan, Tucker, Mullen, Walker, Tucker & Gelman, LLP. His expertise is in complex estate planning, wills and trusts, probate administration, taxation, charitable giving and private foundations. Mr. Schmit is admitted to the Iowa Bar. He received his bachelor of arts degree summa cum laude from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa in 1985 and his juris doctorate with distinction from the University of Iowa in 1988.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association and Johnson County Bar Association. Mr. Schmit is treasurer and member of the board of directors for the Catholic Community Foundation in Iowa City. He’s also a former member of the board of directors for the Regina Education Center in Iowa City.
