Jennifer P. Weiler
Judge Weiler was elected to the Garfield Heights Municipal Court in 1999 for the full term commencing January 1, 2000. She was re-elected to a second term in 2005. Previously, she served as a law clerk for the Ohio Court of Appeals of Ohio, Eighth Appellate District, and then for two years as a law clerk for the Supreme Court of Ohio. For the 16 years that followed, she was engaged in the private practice of law, primarily in the areas of probate, domestic relations, and real estate law.

Weiler received her bachelor of arts from Ohio University in 1974, graduating summa cum laude with majors in history and government. During her time at Ohio University, she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and received the history department’s undergraduate writing competition award. She received her juris doctorate degree, cum laude, from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1979.

As a former secondary school teacher, Weiler has a passion for teaching and writing. She is a planner and presenter for the Ohio Judicial College and has taught various aspects of DUI law and motions to suppress, driving under suspension, evidence, jury trial skills, criminal practice and procedure, and new judges training. She has written numerous articles on DUI and traffic law for publications, including the Cuyahoga County Bar Association’s Law and Fact and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers The Vindicator. She is a frequent lecturer for a number of organizations, having taught continuing legal education topics for the Ohio State Bar Association, Cuyahoga County Bar Association, Cleveland Bar Association, Lorain County Bar Association, Parma Bar Association, Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association, Cuyahoga County Municipal Prosecutors Association, Lorman Education Services, and the Judicial Conference of the Eighth Judicial District.

Weiler serves on the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on the Rules of Superintendence. She is chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Municipal Law Committee. She is a member of the Marymount Hospital Community Advisory Council, Brecksville Kiwanis, and the St. Ignatius Loyola Society. She resides in Brecksville, Ohio, with her husband and children and is active in her church and community.
