Robert N. H. Christmas is a partner with the New York City office of Nixon Peabody LLP. He has practiced business insolvency law and commercial litigation for over twenty years. He has represented hedge funds, private equity funds, secured lenders, lessors, and other real estate owners, indenture trustees, trade creditors, and debtors in workout and bankruptcy proceedings across the United States. He has particular expertise advising clients in international/cross-border commercial and insolvency matters, and he represents multinational businesses as well as official liquidators and other non-U.S. fiduciaries in complex claims involving multiple national jurisdictions. He has also prosecuted and defended ancillary bankruptcy cases filed in the United States in aid of foreign insolvency proceedings.
Mr. Christmas is frequently quoted as a bankruptcy expert in print media nationwide, and he has appeared on CNNfn, Canadian Television, and Bloomberg Radio. As an avid author, his work has been published in the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal, among other publications. He has lectured for the Practicing Law Institute and the American Corporate Counsel Association, and he has extensive experience teaching lawyers and non-lawyers.
Mr. Christmas holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and an L.L.M. from New York University School of Law. Prior to joining Nixon Peabody, he was law clerk for Judge James L. Garrity Jr. of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. He has also served as a litigating attorney for the U.S. Treasury Department.
