Smith is a principal shareholder in the Atlanta firm of Greenberg Traurig, where his practice emphasizes professional liability litigation and prevention for attorneys, accountants as well as officers and directors. He was a member and chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyers Professional Liability and was also a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyer Competence.
Mr. Smith has participated in numerous seminars on the professional liability of attorneys, accountants as well as officers and directors, has guest lectured at law schools and has been an adjunct professor of law at Duke, Emory and Vanderbilt Law Schools. His focus there was on legal ethics, legal malpractice and securities law litigation. He is a member of the American Law Institute and was selected to be in The Best Lawyers in America.
