David D. Siegel
Siegel is an authority in the field of civil practice. Mr. Siegel is Distinguished Professor of Law at the Albany Law School of Union University and has at various times in the past been Visiting Professor at the law schools of St. John’s University, New York University, the University of the State of New York, Cornell University, and Hofstra University. He has lectured on procedure throughout the country for the Practicing Law Institute and numerous bar groups, including the New York State Bar Association, whose monthly New York State Law Digest Professor Siegel has been writing since 1977.

He has authored extensive commentaries on the Civil Practice Law and Rules, the Surrogate’s Court Procedure Act, the New York City Civil Court Act, and the Uniform District, City, and Justice (town and village) court acts. He has also authored a number of Commentaries on federal practice and procedure in Title 28 of the United States Code Annotated, including the extensive Commentaries on Rule 4 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, on the personal jurisdiction of the federal courts, on Rule 45, governing subpoena practice, and on a number of amendments made in Title 28 of U.S.C.A. ®. In addition to the New York State Law Digest, Professor Siegel writes Siegel’s Practice Review, a monthly summary of important developments in civil practice for New York attorneys.

He is a member of New York’s Advisory Committee on Civil Practice and a consultant to New York’s Office of Court Administration, for which he has often conducted seminars with the New York judiciary. He is also a consultant on civil procedure to the American Arbitration Association and has written commentary on the subject of arbitration in Title 9 of U.S.C.A. set.

Professor Siegel’s Commentaries and other writings have been cited in thousands of cases in the state and federal courts.
