Ribstein is the Richard W. and Marie L. Corman Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. He specializes in law related to unincorporated business entities, partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporate and securities law.
Ribstein previously served as an editor of the Supreme Court Economic Review and as an official advisor to the Drafting Committee to Revise the Uniform Partnership Act for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He has presented papers and testimony at the American Law & Economics Association and the Federal Trade Commission.
He received his B.A. degree from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School. In addition to his texts on business organizations, partnership law and limited liability companies, Professor Ribstein is the author of many law review and journal articles, such as Opting Out of Fiduciary Duties: A Response to the Anti-Contractarians in Washington Law Review, Economic Analysis of Uniform State Laws in Journal of Legal Studies, and From Politics to Efficiency in Choice of Law in University of Chicago Law Review.
