John E. Nowak is currently the Raymond and Mary Simon Chair in Constitutional Law at the School of Law at Loyola University in Chicago. Formerly a Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. He graduated from Marquette University and the University of Illinois College of Law, Order of the Coif, where he was editor-in-chief of the law review. He joined the Illinois faculty in 1972 after clerking for Judge Walter V. Shaefer of the Illinois Supreme Court. A member of the American Law Institute, he has written and lectured extensively on various topics in constitutional law. Professor Nowak served as chairperson of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Constitutional Law from 1979 to 1982. he is a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Association of American Law Schools. He acted as the reporter for the Speedy Trial Act Planning Groups of the United States District Courts in Illinois and the National Center for State Courts Task Force on Courts and the American System of Government. Professor Nowak is also a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Jury Instructions in Criminal Cases.
