California Drunk Driving Defense: What you need to know

"Make no mistake," says one frequently cited treatise, "[d]runk driving is one of the most complex of all criminal charges, and undertaking to defend a client on such a charge without extensive preparation constitutes nothing short of malpractice." Lawrence Taylor & Steven Oberman, Drunk Driving Defense, § 1.01, at 6.

For California practitioners wishing to hit the ground running, Lawrence Taylor offers some relief. His new practice guide, California Drunk Driving Defense, covers all aspects of the drunk driving case, including interpretations of statutory terms, administrative license suspensions, discovery and pretrial proceedings, field sobriety tests and evidence, examination of witnesses, and sentencing. The sections are easy to read and the writing is accessible (e.g., "The important point to be clearly established for the jury is that alcohol has little or no odor.").

The full text of this resource is available in the recently released California Drunk Driving Defense database (CADRUNKD). Links to full-text sources are provided for cited statutes, cases, and other materials. You can use the Table of Contents service to quickly browse the contents and retrieve relevant sections by clicking section names.
