Q: I frequently forget to record my research steps before signing off from Westlaw. When that happens, I have to sign back on to Westlaw, click Research Trail, click List of All Research Trails, determine which previous research session (out of several) is the one I need, download or e–mail the trail when I find it, and sign off. What a hassle! Is there an easier way?

A: Modify your print and download preferences so that your research trail is automatically e-mailed to you when you sign off. To access the Preferences pages, click Preferences at the top of any page. Click Trail in the left frame. The Trail Preferences page is displayed. Select the E-Mail my last Trail at sign off check box. Then click Save Changes.
