Indiana educators eligible for Lilly Endowment's Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program

The Lilly Endowment offers educational and professional development opportunities for Indiana's teachers, principals, and assistant principals. This competitive program is committed to helping Indiana become a more rewarding area for teachers and other education professionals. The grants are intended to support creative projects for educators that are personally renewing and intellectually revitalizing. In addition, applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their projects will affect their students' involvement in the learning process. The program offers 120 grants of $8,000 each to Indiana educators, including guidance counselors and library/media specialists. The program will also support 10 creative projects requiring additional financial support and time away from the classroom or school. At this level, each teacher will receive up to $25,000; and a separate grant of up to $25,000 will be available for the teacher's school district. The deadline for applications is November 7, 2008.

Earthwatch Educator Fellowships get teachers out of classroom for environmental learning

The Earthwatch Education Fellowship enables K-12 classroom teachers to join scientists in field research and conservation efforts on one of more than 90 projects around the world. Fellows will learn how to conduct biological transects of a study area and practice the latest techniques in observing and recording scientific data. The fellowships will pay for all the expenses of teachers' expedition costs, including participation in research, food, accommodations, on-site travel, and various other costs of field work. There also may be partial reimbursement for teachers' travel expenses to and from the project site. The application is available online. The deadline to apply is November 17, 2008.
