Your writing could appear in the inaugural issue.
In November 2009 the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Sweet & Maxwell, a Thomson Reuters legal publisher, are launching a new, English-language journal on global IP issues.
The WIPO Journal: Analysis and Debate of Intellectual Property Issues will cover IP-related legal, policy, economic, social and technical issues that affect countries around the world. The general editor, Professor Peter K. Yu, and the editorial board invite authors to submit articles on relevant topics, particularly controversial current issues and hot topics.
Who may submit
A broad range of professionals, including lawyers, patent and trademark attorneys, policy makers, academics, scientists, and economists, are welcome to submit writings.
Scope of submissions
Submissions must not have been published previously.
- Articles (approximately 7,000-10,000 words) - Authors should focus on IP issues and as far as possible explain the issues in a practical way; cross-jurisdictional comparisons are encouraged
- Comments (approximately 3,000 words) - Discussion of a specific topic, such as an individual case, bill, act, or section of an act, explaining why the topic is of concern or interest
- Opinions (approximately 1,500 words) - The author's personal views on IP matters, written in a "punchy" editorial style
Manuscript presentation
All submissions should be in Microsoft Word format and submitted as an email attachment to thewipojournal@thomsonreuters.com. In the body of the email provide:
- Your name
- Profession or title
- Email address
- A brief summary of your submission
- The area you seek to cover: legal, technical, economic, policy, or other issue
Review process
Prior to publication the editorial board will review all submissions independently of WIPO. The board may require some amendment to ensure that a piece is entirely suitable for the journal.
