PREMISE® Research Software 3.73 for Windows
PREMISE Research Software (PREMISE), a package provided by West Group, gives
you the ability to access and search material stored on CD-ROM discs and magnetic
media. PREMISE was designed for use with West CD-ROM LibrariesTM, but it can
also be usedto access Westlaw® , West Groups premier online legal research service.
With PREMISE, you have all the tools you need for your research.
FEATURES
- The PREMISE Forms Launcher, which copies forms from PREMISE to your word processor.
- Access to KeyCiteTM, the citation research service from West Group that integrates all case law on Westlaw.
- Access to the Table of authorities, which can help you find weaknesses in your case by showing whether the cases on which it relies have significant negative history.
- Automatic phone number configuration during the installation of PREMISE.
- Client Validation, which compares project client identifiers with those defined in a file of valid client identifiers.
- Total Westlaw time displayed in the Project Summary dialog box.

- Access to the QUOTE service on Westlaw, which provides stock, mutual fund and treasury issue price quotes.

Personal Computer (PC)
This list indicates the minimum compatibility
requirements for PREMISE Research Software.
Use the following information to determine if
your PC is compatible with PREMISE.
- Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT® or Windows 3.1
- DOS version 3.3
- 486 processor
- 4MB of available RAM (8MB or more is recommended)
- VGA or Super VGA monitor
- 30MB of available hard disk space if you want to install the tutorial, 15MB if you choose
not to install the tutorial. (The tutorial takes 15MB of hard disk space. It does not have to
be installed on your hard drive; it can be run from the PREMISE CD-ROM disc.)
- The word-processing formats require up to 3MB of available space on your hard drive, depending on the number of formats you
install.
- If you access Westlaw through PREMISE, your modem must connect at 9600 bps or faster. Full V.32 modem compatibility with
error correction is required.
- To access information on a CD-ROM disc, you need a CD-ROM drive using Microsoft® CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) Version 2.1
or higher (compatible CD-ROM drives must meet the ISO 9660 standard). The drive must be capable of reading discs with a
capacity of 680MB.
