What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML file format used for syndicating news and content. RSS files contain basic information about a particular piece of content, typically the title and an abstract. A growing number of companies and media outlets are using RSS files to deliver their news and other content to their key audiences via RSS feeds, which provide a list of recently published content.
To read the RSS feed, you first need an RSS reader, also called a news reader or news aggregator. RSS readers are available as Web-based applications, desktop applications, or as add-ons to your email or Web browser programs. Many RSS readers are free. Once you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to a site's RSS feed.
The RSS reader allows you to view new content from all of your favorite sites in one location. If you find a story of interest, you can then click the title to go to the story's source to see the full piece of content.
